A glimpse into the life of a Mormon missionary (Elder Creer) as he serves a two year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He began serving in the Utah Salt Lake City Mission- Spanish speaking. On July 1, 2012, he was transferred to a new mission- the Utah Salt Lake City West Mission.

I played with a kid who played against Jimmer ...

Hola Familia!

The first week in the MTC went by really fast! The spirit is so strong here! To start things out Bry, that wasn't my companion that was with me when you saw me. They have older missionaries take the new ones around on a little tour and then we meet our companions later. My companion's name is Elder Shuster, he is from San Diego California. He is 21 and he was just baptized a little over a year ago which was really cool to hear about. He has such a strong enthusiasm and love for our savior and the gospel and he is a really good example to me. He never likes to take a break so even when we are just walking to lunch or something, he has the vocab book out and we are going over vocab so I am learning a lot! And mom the food here is alright, it is way better than BYU Hawaii's but you could probably eat dog food and be better than that place haha. My district is awesome! I wouldn't be surprised if we have the best one in the whole MTC! The two elders that are in the same room as me and Elder Shuster are Elder Blakely and Elder Heaton. They are both from the same ward in Louisiana and have been best friends their whole life and now they are companions in the MTC and they are both going to the same mission as me! Isn't that crazy, like what are the chances of that?? They are really cool guys, Elder Heaton has a very strong testimony and always makes me self evaluate to see how I can be a better person. Elder Blakely was a soccer stud in high school and was the captain for his team a couple years I think. It was cool that the Elders I am living with are going to the same mission.

The rest of the district is awesome too. Elder Stembrige played football at Snow College for two years, Elder Rockhill played baseball at SUU so I can talk about sports with them which is nice. The rest of the guys are cool too and most of them are going to San Fernando Cali but a few are going to Peru. We all get along great which has been truly a blessing. I will send some pics next week.

So when we got here all of the older Elders said that we came in at the perfect time because there was some training thing going on for all of the new mission presidents so there was a lot of general authorities here. Last week we had a very spiritual devotional from Elder Bednar! He talked about becoming a better missionary and teaching by the spirit. There were also 6 other members of the 12 apostles there and several others from the 70. We got seats that were like 10 rows back and it felt like General Conference, it was great! I think that it was the best devotional I have ever been too and it made me want to be the best missionary I can be. I want to follow the example of Elder Ward and serve with NO REGRETS and be exactly obedient because I know that is how I can be the most effective in serving my Heavenly Father.

So because of the MTC president training thing that was going on here, the gym was closed until Monday so we had to go out and play volleyball on the sand, but they opened the gym back up so it's all good now. It is way fun playing here it there is some pretty good competition. Yesterday I played with a kid who played for Southern Virginia last year and a kid who played against Jimmer on the BYU practice team last year. They were good but I could hold my own! Dad, thanks for the update on Jimmer’s number by the way haha, I am surprised he went that high though, the earliest I would've guessed was the Jazz's second pick after that Canter dude.

Anyways the Spanish is coming along. I think that I have already learned more in one week than I did in both years I took it in school. There is no doubt that I have a lot of work and studying to do but I know that if I do my part and have faith then the Lord will bless me with the gift of tongues and I will learn the language. We study Spanish like 6-7 hours a day, its crazy! Well I hope all is going well there and thanks for all of your support! You are the best!!

Con amor,

Elder Creer

  1. Nice to hear how well you are doing! The MTC can be a very special place....both Kourt and Jase were there when Mission Presidents were being trained. Lots of visits from the General Authorities....Awesome! Work hard, you will be blessed!
